Hip Hop Mogul, Russell Simmons reflecting on his early downfall

Starting to promote was great for my spirit, though it had a terrible, ultimately fatal effect on my schoolwork. I actually did more schoolwork while selling drugs. Maybe i started f**king up in school because i felt I'd already found my life's work. What was the point of chemistry when i knew my job was to sell tickets?
Eventually i left City College in my senior year, just four or five credits short of sociology degree. This really upset my father, who thought i was a fool. Over and over he lectured me that the only way for a black man to make it was to get a degree and a job. For a while there i felt like i was a failure in my father's eyes, which hurt a lot, but promoting felt right in my gut. I knew that to be a man i had to follow my heart. My mother was always more open to Danny, Joey and me pursuing more nontraditional, entrepreneurial way.
Early in promoting career i lost all the money I'd saved putting on a show in Harlem no one cam out to. I came out to Hollis and no one would help me. My father just wanted me to go back to school and told me so. What could i say? I had no money. Then my mother went back in the house and came out with $2,000 in crisp $100 bills from her personal savings. It was that money that kept me afloat until Kurtis Blow broke and i entered the record business. That act of love and faith, which is what kept me in business at a key time, is my favorite memory of her.

Lyfe Jennings sentanced to 3 and a half!!!

*c/o HipHop News 24/7*
Futuristic Blogger - Cobb County got another one!!! Lyfe Jennings got 3 1/2 years in prison today for a high speed car chase. Officers, originally responding to reports of gunshots in the area, observed Jennings’ red 2005 Chevy Corvette jetting the scene and gave chase, which led to him crashing the vehicle.
At the conclusion of their investigation officers, arrested and charged Mr. Jennings with Criminal Trespass, Discharging a Firearm Near a Public Highway, DUI-Refusal, all misdemeanors. Mr. Jennings was also charged with Attempting to Elude and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, both felonies.
Mr. Jennings was lodged at the Smyrna City Jail where he was later transferred to the Cobb County Detention Facility. suspect vehicle leaving the area. The vehicle was a red 2005 Chevrolet corvette, later determined to be registered to Chester J. Jennings, of Marietta, GA.
I’m not clear on whether the crash or the officers caused the scars on Lyfe’s face, but since Jennings is a convicted felon he may NEVER get out of that mutha! I keep telling y’all transplants not to f*ck around in CC…but you won’t listen

The Art Of Persuasion
The art of persuasion represents the history of shrewd but diplomatic manipulation -- getting people over the fence and onto your side without the use of force. Its ultimate goal is basic, but difficult: To convince your audience to internalize your argument, then embrace it as a part of their core belief system.
In his book, Influence: the Psychology of Persuasion, author Robert Cialdini defines six weapons of influence: reciprocation, commitment/consistency, authority, social validation, scarcity, and liking/friendship. Below, we’ll look at a number of persuasive techniques and how some of Cialdini’s "weapons" can be applied, along with some hints from Aristotle and one rather innovative technique offered up by two guys with distinctly Hollywood backgrounds.
Advertisers rely on first creating a need for you (Nothing else can dehydrate your food like a Ronco Food Dehydrator), then on creating the notion of scarcity (and you have five minutes to buy one at this amazing price). In the professional world, you have two such agents on your persuasive side: time, and the indeterminate actions of your competitor. In order to get your audience on your side, you have to convince them of a need they may not be aware they had. For example, you need to get a program off the ground immediately because now is the only time it can be implemented with the best possible results.
For example, Warren Buffet rarely fails to refer to his investors as “partners,” though they do not meet this definition. He knows, however, that doing so instills a sense of equality and fraternity in them without his having to give up a single thing. Cialdini’s ideas of both reciprocation (“People are more willing to comply with requests from those who have provided such things first”) and liking/friendship (“People prefer to say yes to those they know and like”) can be seen in Buffett’s simple, but loaded, choice of words.
The next three techniques -- ethos, pathos and logos -- appear as modes of persuasion in Aristotle’s On Rhetoric. Combining all three modes properly has the potential to craft an extremely persuasive argument.
An appeal to authority is meant to satisfy your audience that you come from a position of power, whether you are demonstrating your own in-depth knowledge on the topic; your own qualifications; a display of your own interest of commitment in the matter; or you're introducing the words or work of an individual who is an established authority in order to align their views with your own.
The key is to evoke an emotional response by using metaphors or appealing to a sense of risk and adventure -- without overdoing it.
They outline the five elements of a successful story: The story is told with passion, through the eyes of a hero, one who first encounters an antagonist, then experiences an awareness, and this awareness leads to the ultimate transformation.
The point, then, is to dress your presentation to persuade in the skin of a story. Position what you’re chiefly trying to persuade (a financial opportunity) as the hero; known obstacles as the antagonist (risk of financial loss); insert your primary argument as the awareness (reasons risk is reduced); and the ultimate transformation as your perceived outcome (financial reward). And, of course, tell it with passion.
Manufacture a need
Attempting to persuade others to believe you when you lack an identifiable urgency is pointless. If the thing you want -- support, money, approval -- isn’t obvious, you’ll need to make it obvious by manufacturing a profound need and lacing it with urgency. Cialdini’s weapon of scarcity comes into play. He writes, “People find objects and opportunities more attractive to the degree that they are scarce, rare or dwindling in availability.”Advertisers rely on first creating a need for you (Nothing else can dehydrate your food like a Ronco Food Dehydrator), then on creating the notion of scarcity (and you have five minutes to buy one at this amazing price).
Use loaded words
Politicians and advertisers use loaded words every day. Consider the commonly used phrases "war on terror," "defending democracy" or "all natural." What precisely do they mean? Not even an effectively drawn-out response could deliver the connection and the true meaning of these terms. In the desire to persuade, meaning itself is often secondary when loaded words are used.
Speak their language
Again, “People prefer to say yes to those they know and like.” To that end, a basic means of persuasion involves not only using jargon they understand and recognize, but simply using the name(s) of your audience. It’s as fundamental as meeting someone for the first time; if later on you’re able to remember their name, you’re bound to make a far better impression. It massages the ego and convinces the listener both that somebody has remembered their name, and that they proved worthy of having their name remembered. The next three techniques -- ethos, pathos and logos -- appear as modes of persuasion in Aristotle’s On Rhetoric. Combining all three modes properly has the potential to craft an extremely persuasive argument.
Appeal to authority (ethos)
Of authority, Cialdini writes, “People are more willing to follow the directions or recommendations of a communicator to whom they attribute relevant authority or expertise.”An appeal to authority is meant to satisfy your audience that you come from a position of power, whether you are demonstrating your own in-depth knowledge on the topic; your own qualifications; a display of your own interest of commitment in the matter; or you're introducing the words or work of an individual who is an established authority in order to align their views with your own.
Appeal to emotion (pathos)
Too often, people incorrectly assume that the business world is only concerned with facts. While numbers have their place and should never be ignored entirely, an appeal to emotions can prove especially effective in a business setting. The key is to evoke an emotional response by using metaphors or appealing to a sense of risk and adventure -- without overdoing it.
Appeal to reason (logos)
Appealing to reason is the application of unimpeachable facts and figures to influence your audience. For many in the professional world, there may be no better form of persuasion. In conjunction with ethos, using reason and logic will help to convey the impression of authority, in part because you appear supremely prepared.Tell a story
Finally, former Hollywood consultants Robert Dickman and Richard Maxwell, the authors of The Elements of Persuasion, warn not to overlook the persuasive power of storytelling. They believe that we organize our thought processes according to stories and argue that “every great leader is a storyteller.” To them, a story is “a fact wrapped in an emotion that compels an action, which transforms our world,” and as such, can be utilized as a technique in persuasion.

The Art of Self Discipline

Self-discipline is an important skill for any fledgling businessman, and indeed for everyone. The ability to follow through on conscious decisions, no matter what you feel emotionally, lets you keep your business on track and make those important choices in even the hardest and most testing times. Self-discipline can help you avoid procrastination and time wasting, and help you take control of every area of your life. So how do you accomplish real self-discipline? Learning self-discipline is like leaning any kind of new skill. It will take time and involves practice, gradually increasing the difficulty of the task. The more you train, and the further you push yourself, the better self-discipline you’ll have There are various stages in learning self-discipline. The first step you need to take is to work out what your level of self-discipline currently is. This allows you to then know how far to push yourself and work out what you’re current limits are. Of course, these limits will change as you become stronger through your training. In order to establish your current level, think about your life and habits. Ask yourself questions such as how strict you are with regards to your health, weight, appearance, tidiness etc. These things can show you how much self-discipline you already have. For example, if you resist the temptation to eat something unhealthy when you know you shouldn’t, despite a craving for it, then it’s likely you already have good self-discipline, though this doesn’t mean you can’t still improve. There are different areas of self discipline-be it work, diet, exercise or social. Each of these areas needs to be trained separately, though having an overall strong self-discipline will obviously help.Start with an achievable limit Now you need to find things to train yourself with-tasks that you challenge yourself to do. It’s good to start off with something achievable but that will push you. This will vary from person to person, but maybe for you it’s not eating fast food for a week, or not logging on to Facebook while you’re at work for a day. Choose a goal that will test you but is attainable; something too easy won’t help you improve, and something too difficult will make you lose motivation. Once you’ve achieved this goal, try extending it- a week, rather than a day, say. It’s important not to compare your goals and level of self-discipline with others. This won’t help you, and might end up making you feel worse.Take small steps You can try to achieve your final goal through taking smaller steps. For example, perhaps you want to be able to get out of bed earlier in the morning. Instead of setting your alarm 3 hours earlier, and expecting to jump out of bed at that time, try gradually getting up earlier and earlier each day, maybe in 15 minute or half hour increments. Eventually you will get to your final goal. Also, changing your environment may help you find it easier to reach your final goal. For example, making sure you have healthy food, and not junk, in the fridge will make it easier for you to follow a diet, or putting a child block on your computer to make it more difficult to access Facebook will help you avoid wasting time on it.Manage your time better It will help greatly if you learn not to avoid things because they are difficult or boring. Part of self-discipline is doing things that need to be done even if you don’t really want to. By avoiding procrastination and getting on with important jobs, you will manage your time much better and therefore have a more productive day. For example, sorting out and tidying your office may not seem that important, and seem like a boring, tedious task. But it is something that needs to be done, and being motivated to just do it, and not put it off, will mean it’s done much quicker and will no longer be on a long ‘to do’ list. Using your time well to do these jobs will give you more time to focus your energy and concentration on those really important tasks.Be persistentIt is important to be persistent with your goals. This means that, even when you feel like quitting, you can carry on with a task. Your motivation will doubtless have its ups and downs. When you’ve had a tiring day and it’s raining outside, you’ll feel much less motivated to do that extra piece of work or resist that extra biscuit. But it’s important to stop and remind yourself that this is just a temporary feeling, and that quitting now will be a waste of your efforts so far. Everyone has weak moments, so don’t be too hard on yourself, but make sure you keep up your goals. Persistence is what keeps you working even when you least feel like it. Eventually results will make you feel even more motivated, and this in turn will give you more persistence.Lastly, it’s important to reassess your goals from time to time to make sure they’re still valid. You may find that as your self-discipline increases, your goals might change. There is nothing wrong with changing your goals and sometimes this might mean abandoning old goals. But make sure you are not abandoning them just because you can’t be bothered or no longer feel motivated, but are now pursuing a more important goal.

How To Get The Mindset To Take You From Broke To Rich

Most of us dream of having a successful business and of being the perfect entrepreneur. Most of us also know that realising this dream is not all down to talent. A large part of being successful is thinking successful. If you have confidence and a positive outlook on yourself and your ideas, then you will have the drive to persist and put in that hard work. It also helps to persuade others of your potential. If you don’t feel enthusiastic or confident about your ventures, then no-one else will either!A successful entrepreneur will have a real passion and enthusiasm for their work, and will put in that extra effort. They will be driven and positive, knowing what they want and having a plan to get it. They will let nothing stop them on the way and be confident enough to make quick decisions about their ideas. Success is, in part, just a mindset. Here are some steps to help you start thinking like a successful entrepreneur:Assess the past.
It is important to look back at past decisions and see how those decisions have affected your life. This way you can assess where you made mistakes, and learn from them for the future. If you see how your past mindset is holding you back, it will be easier to start thinking more positively.Try to improve yourself everyday.
This doesn’t have to be a chore, and doesn’t necessarily mean in relation to work. You could try widening your knowledge by reading lots and talking to lots of different people, not just about business but about all subjects, and you will become a more rounded, interesting person. You could also attend seminars or read self-help books to learn about improving your state of mind and business skills if you feel you need help in these areas.Know your goals.
This doesn’t mean a vague idea of what you’d like ten years down the line. Spend some time thinking, or writing down if it helps, about exactly what you want, both in the immediate future and for the long term. How do you see your home, business, family in the future? For example, don’t just think that you want a nice car and kids; think which nice car, how many kids. Knowing exactly what you’re working towards will help keep you thinking positively and have some real motivation, rather than just a vague idea of where your life might be going. Also, spending the time thinking about it will tell your subconscious that you are really serious about your goals.Don’t expect things to just happen.
A successful entrepreneur will go after what they want, and not stop pushing until they get it. If you just wait for things to happen, life will pass you by and you’ll find that your dreams aren’t realised. Most success is not down to luck, it is down to persistence, hard work and action. Network with like-minded, positive people.
Particularly useful will be those who are already successful in your area of business. They can provide advice, guidance and inspiration.Don’t give up.
Do you think that the world’s successful entrepreneurs gave up at the first sign of defeat? No. You will always face set backs and things will go wrong, but this doesn’t mean you can’t recover. Your new mindset should allow you to keep thinking positively and move on. It’s important to stick to your goals and not give up until you achieve them.Follow these steps and you should be on the way to having the right mindset to get you from broke to rich. Remember to always have your goals in mind and don’t stop until you’ve reached them!

The Eight Most Common Excuses For Not Starting A Business

Anything that holds you back from starting a business is an excuse. The doubts that play back and forth in your mind can easily erase your dreams of becoming financially free.
Take a look at the eight most common excuses people use to justify not starting a business.
Take a look at the eight most common excuses people use to justify not starting a business.
1. I’ve not got enough time:
Do you watch TV after work? Why not make one of those major sacrifices and ban yourself from watching TV. You’ll get the extra time you need to start a part time business or money scheme.
2. I’m not smart enough:
You don’t need to be the most intelligent to make money, all you need is the ability to absorb basic information as you go along. Learn by doing and the answers will come as you keep striving. Plus there are many free events and seminars out there to help you.
3. I am waiting for the perfect idea:
If you are waiting for the perfect idea there’s a high possibility that it will never arrive. Instead of waiting for the perfect idea, why don’t you emulate a working business structure and make it better than the competition? Almost all the successful entrepreneurs from Branson to Bannatyne have never had an original business idea.
4. God doesn’t want me to be rich:
Well, I can bet God wouldn’t want you to be poor!
5. Rich people are mean in business:
Ask yourself this question: Would you rather be a little bit tough and get the luxuries you rightly deserve in this world, or would you prefer to beat yourself up for not having the courage to chase your financial dreams? The choice is yours.
6. I don’t need a lot of money:
You might not need a lot of money, but I bet you also don’t need a lot of stress from the bills that continue to mount up. Instead of making a fortune for yourself, why not do it for your family and the underprivileged? One of the most well known formulas for happiness is the ability to have a positive affect on people’s lives.
7. I have to wait until my foundations are right:
If there’s one thing you take from this article it’s this: The time is never ever going to be right. There will always be minor or major obstacles whether it’s not having a significant amount of capital, or some personal problems. So listen to Napoleon Hill’s wise words “Don't wait. The time will never be just right.”
8. I have children:
Having kids might be hard but you can still reach your goals. If Chris Garner can do it, so can you.

FEMALE SCARFACE:

Griselda Blanco was the first female drug trafficker in history. She is also credited with being a visionary, she was the first person to see the capabilities in connecting New York, Miami and Columbia for cocaine distribution. Blanco was not only a drug trafficker, she was also an ‘serial killer’ nicknamed, “The Black Widow.” She killed her three husbands and she killed people who owed her money and people she owed money to. Sometimes, she killed for fun. She operated as a “Mafia Don,” hiring hit men in twenty-five different cities so that she didn’t get her hands dirty.
A rape victim, abused child, prostitute and street pocket who came from extreme poverty, Blanco came to Queens in the late 1960’s with her boyfriend (Carlos Trujillo) the father of three of her four sons. Trujillo introduced her to Alberto Bravo, a trafficker from Medellin and Bravo introduced Blanco to his world. One day, Bravo said something that offended Blanco, she stuck the muzzle of a loaded gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. In 1971, she started her own cocaine network. She used numerous sources who supplied her with cocaine.
Blanco was also bi-sexual who only used female mules. They often wore lingerie Blanco had designed herself and which were sold in her Medellin Boutique. The underwear contained special pockets capable of concealing two kilograms of cocaine. Soon, Blanco was grossing $8 million dollars a month in drug profits. She traveled frequently between New York and Miami. She moved to Florida in 1978 where she assembled a group of young assassins called “The Pisteleros.” To become a member, one needed to kill someone and cut off a body part as proof of the deed.
In 1979, Blanco orchestrated the infamous Dade County Shopping Mall Massacre. A van advertising party supplies unleashed two hit men, armed with automatic weapons, who converged on a liquor store where Blanco had arranged to meet two drug competitors to whom she owed a great deal of money. Her intention was to kill the competitors and erase her debt. The shooters killed two targets. In 1982, Blanco ordered a hit on Chucho Castro, a former employee who had angered her because he refused to meet with her. Blanco’s assassins drove up alongside Castro’s van, fired shots, and missing Chucho, killed his toddler son Johnny, instead. Later that same year, she ordered the hit of a couple who owed her drug money, the Lorenzo’s. Afterwards, Blanco became enraged that the hit men left the couple’s three children alive.
Blanco inspired such fear and insulated herself so successfully, it took law enforcement 16 years to find anyone willing to testify against her.
Between 1981-1984, Blanco began smoking a highly potent form of cocaine, she became addicted and smoked her way through $7 million dollars worth of cocaine and began slowly losing her mind. She bought Eva Peron’s diamonds and the Queen Of England’s tea set. She killed strippers and topless dancers for fun and once shot a pregnant woman in the stomach. She ripped off her best friend for $1.8 million and then tortured, beat, shot and wrapped her in plastic and tossed her in a canal. Around this time, her current lover bought her a Christmas present, an emerald and gold encrusted MAC-10. Blanco also loved to attend lesbian and bi-sexual orgies.
Over time, Blanco became fat and sloppy and forced men to have sex with her at gunpoint. Eventually she also became addicted to painkillers and tranquilizers.
The police finally got a break when a former member of her crew agreed to testify against her if his life sentence was reduced. Blanco was arrested in 1985 in a cocaine trafficking case in New York.
On October 1, 1998, state prosecutors in Florida decided to negotiate a plea with Blanco. If she pled guilty to ordering the murder of Chucho Castro, resulting in the death of his son. Her sentence? Twenty years in a Florida prison, credited to time served in New York. Blanco accepted the plea deal. Due to her poor health, she had one heart attack behind bars but survived.
After serving 20 years in prison, Blanco was released in 2004 and deported back to Columbia. The same place where three of her four sons were killed within days of their return to Columbia.
Mery “La Senora” Valencia (COCAINE QUEENPIN)
On February 7, 1997, an international fugitive who had undergone extensive plastic surgery, stepped off a plane at the Rio de Janiero airport preparing to don a real mask to participate in the biggest party in the world, ‘Carnival.’ The fugitive, aged 44, carried 13 passports and a ledger book containing names of cocaine-trafficking clients and was immediately arrested by a bevy of Brazillian police and federal agents. The fugitive’s name was Mery Valencia (no photo available). Her nickname was “La Senora” and she was one of the pre-eminent international cocaine traffickers in the formerly male-dominated Cali cartel.
The scope of her operation, which begun in 1986, involved multiple millions of dollars and over 25 tons of cocaine, which were shipped from Columbia to the United States via Puerto Rico and then transported to NY, NJ, IL, FL, OH and CA. On the same day she was arrested, 56 other members of her organization were either arrested or indicted in America. Raids netted over 320 kilos of cocaine and $20 million in cash. Stash houses in Long Beach, CA. were also raided.
Just as remarkable as the fact this operation was headed by a woman is the fact that all of Valencia’s top lieutenants were also female. Included were her sister Luz Valencia-Castrillon, who was allegedly overseeing money laundering operations from Columbia. Another sister, Alba Valencia was also involved as well as an ex-sister-in-law Josephine Valencia and a first cousin, Flor Castano. Valencia has been described as a behind-the-scenes taskmaster, demanding an exact accounting for every ounce of coke sold. She even intimidated the male members of her organization, one was heard on a wire tap saying, “I would never do anything without Le Senora’s permission.”
Valencia was also known to have an affluent lifestyle. She enjoyed extensive foreign travel and owned several apartments and country homes in Columbia, she also owned a discotheque called “Black Streets,” and a health and beauty store called ‘Beverly Hills’ in Cali, Columbia. Not since the 1970’s, since Griselda Blanco earned millions has a woman attained so much power and profit in the notoriously sexist world of drug cartels.
While the Brazil authorities had remained adamant about the policy that prevented them from extraditing Valencia for being a narcotics trafficker, they finally relented when it was insisted Valencia be returned to the US to be arrested on money laundering and drug charges.
In 1999, Mery Valencia was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.

(Aristotle can truly be defined as the modern term ‘gigolo’; he successfully gained a reputation for dating women who were his pedal stool to financial success. It all began with his first girlfriend Claudia Muzio, who helped him launch his first cigarette business venture. Once the business was successful, he quickly discarded her in search for his next girlfriend, also his next business venture. This was standard routine for Aristotle; he would conquer and then seek new territory. However, his hard work and dedication that made him a billionaire came with sacrifices. He concentrated on his businesses 24/7 that he was deprived of spending any time with his two children.)
Ernest was left to take care of his father’s vineyard, when his father shot himself and his mother in the head.
